Ultimo Pedestrian Network: throwing a few green-path ideas around
This rather hastily put together map-scribble indicates the potential for the Ultimo Pedestrian Network to extend well beyond its current span at the back of the ABC.
It could go over the disused railway bridge (an idea already supported by a number of stakeholders), and could pass by the new Gehry Building (the Dr Chau Chak Wing … this is likely to happen) … but, moreover, it could keep on going down to the Tramsheds site (owned by the Powerhouse Museum). This site is being touted as the space for the proposed City Farm (to be run jointly by the City of Sydney and the Powerhouse), but in the meantime, the Powerhouse is planning to use this land for a community garden project.
The Ultimo Pedestrian Network could then extend in a number of directions - up to Ultimo, down the Haymarket, and up to Darling Harbour… and it could incorporate the new forecourt of the Powerhouse Museum (if the architects design it that way…).
There are, of course, many complications: railway lines, tramlines, the monorail, privately owned land, etc etc… but this doesn’t stop us doing a little “UPN dreaming” every now and then.
