Smells of Ultimo

A couple of days ago the Broadway - Harris St intersection smelled like rotten eggs. Oddly, the stench didn’t seem to be isolated; it permeated several blocks. Does any one know the source? Strangely, we actually saw a few remnants of smashed eggs outside the TAFE, but presumably they couldn’t cause a smell of that magnitude. MaryAnn St, at Jones St, smells like raw sewage, which is oddly comforting because it reminds us of Chicago’s grubby old infrastructure. Hackett Street at Hackett Lane smells like jasmine right now - stranger too, because we can’t see the plant. Bulwara Road smells like fried rice and dumplings, and Quarry Street smells like sandwich. In a good way. The Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre smells like… Well, an indoor pool, but again, it’s not gross. The humidity and chlorine is comforting, warm, and filled with childhood memories of swim meets, birthday parties, big towels and hot chips.
